Ian, located in Seattle’s ‘Belltown’ neighborhood, brings an assortment of some of the best contemporary and independent designers from the United States and abroad, including local designers. Keeping the customer’s lifestyle in mind, Ian focuses on current yet still classic clothing. The store prides itself in nurturing brands by fully representing collections each season rather than simply picking and choosing various items, giving the customer a chance to learn about a designer’s concept and vision.
This roomy shop with hardwood floors, exposed beams, and an endless supply of designer clothes makes good use of its size. “We tend to overbuy,” admits co-owner Cerise Lacock. T-shirts—along with denim and hoodies from Rogan, G-Star, and Loomstate—work with higher-end Martin Margiela pants, the occasional suit from Paris-bred Paul + Joe, and edgy gear like a $680 side-zip cardigan by McQ. If you feel confused by the continually updated merchandise, don’t worry: That’s kind of the point.
“Brands get overexposed,” Lacock explains, “and we want to keep our stock special.”
